Abstract: Construction Industry strives to employ the latest ICT Tools, which allow the practitioners to perform and streamline their works, making them more efficient. Big construction corporations may access to expensive existing solutions or even develop their own tools. On the contrary, smaller construction companies (SME), which comprise the majority of Europe’s building industry, do not always have enough resources to promptly access these expensive software tools. Furthermore, in the specific sub-sector working on restoration, retrofitting and maintenance of ancient and old buildings, there is an important requirement of protecting sensitive features in the buildings, such as, historical, social and usage value, which forces the SMEs dedicated to this activity to find an efficient way to get their in-house know-how managed. This paper presents an experience of the kind, based in the European funded H-KNOW project (FP7-NMP-214567).
